DESCRIPTION:
The present PhD thesis studies the design and modeling of wavelength multiplexers and demultiplexers based on the Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) technology. A model for device design is presented based on Green’s function method and coupled mode theory in order to estimate the transfer function of the device. The model is used to study the impact of phase errors due to fabrication imperfections in the performance of the device. A method is also presented for the flattening of the passband of the device. The impact of device crosstalk on the performance of an NxN optical interconnection is analyzed. Finally, an accurate model is presented for the statistical behavior of the crosstalk noise taking into account the interaction of the crosstalk with itself in the receiving photodiode.
