This project led to the development of a novel system for the detection and identification of cancer in colonoscopic video. The system aims to the detection of small size regions that could possibly be neglected by the physicians, in a first endoscopic examination. After the examination, the microcomputer system processes the endoscopic video with proper algorithms for the detection of regions that could possibly evolve to cancer. The detected regions are evaluated by experts. The experts’ decisions are taken into account along with the features estimated by the video frames. All data are processed and used by a recognition system, which is based on neural network models.
