DESCRIPTION:
The work concerned the implementation of IP over WDM protocols, alternative architectures for IP traffic above WDM optical networks. It has been realized with the sponsoring of GREEK TELECOME and in collaboration with EMP (NTUA Technical University) and EDET (Greek Research and Technology Network GRNET/ΕΔΕΤ). It concerns the pilot application of architectures as the POS (Packet over Sonet), GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) and DPT (Dynamic Packet Transport) for IP transmission in the WDM backbone optical networks of the GREEK TELECOME. A design of experimental network has been performed. The following studies have been performed: Functional and technical requirements of systems (included system of management), Potential Market, Syntax of specifications and requirements from GREEK TELECOME side (market of equipment, elements of WDM network, measurement instruments). Installation of the system in the spaces of GREEK TELECOME as well as control and process of measurements has been performed. In addition a methodology for performing measurement concerning the evaluation of optical WDM of network has been developed.
